Charter schools are free public schools that operate outside the district and require winning a lottery for admission. Charter schools often offer more specialized curriculum and smaller class sizes, making them a desirable choice for many students. Most charter school lotteries are in March. Volunteers should inform students entering elementary, middle, and high school of these alternate educational options. Additionally, many Providence private schools are need-blind and offer full-ride scholarships, so they are also a great alternative to the Providence district schools.
